We had a great weekend in NYC. I knew things were going to go well when we found a free parking spot in the city 2 blocks from our hotel! After doing a little shopping for husband's family, we had excellent Thai food for dinner. Our hotel was incredible-- the Affinia Dumont. I highly recommend it and we got it for only $100 through priceline. The room was huge and even had a full kitchen. It was so convenient to everything -- 34th and Lex.
Saturday we were able to do a "Highlights of Asian Art" tour at the Met. My husband and sister-in-law both said they probably shouldn't be learning so much about their own culture from the white woman giving the tour :) We then hit some of the Modern art area and my non-understanding of what makes Rothko so special continues. Of course, since I am still a teenage boy, I had to point out all the strange penis shapes on many of the roman/greek statutes. I knew the Met was big, but even in my wildest imagination I underestimated the breadth of its collection. I told husband we needed to come back and spend a week.
Things haven't been great since we returned, but I will write about it tomorrow.
